PCM (Phase Change Materials) tiles reduce heating by storing energy which they release when the temperature drop below a set point. This passive cycle requires no additional energy and will happen any time the room air is above or below the set point. The same process works also in reducing cooling loads by absorbing some of the excess heat when the room rises above a set point, and releasing it when the temperature drops back below that set point
